The book is fine… but I have issues with the author Review by Tim

This book is primarily filled with a left-wing chair stacking agenda. I’m sure President (elect) Barrack Obama completely supports this liberal clap-trap. Oh, and to the reviewer that refers to the author as “Dr.” — I can assure you HE IS NO DOCTOR… certainly not in the classical sense of the word. But also many of the author’s theories remain unproven. His bold claims cannot be backed-up by simply quoting quantumn mechanic rhetoric. Other than these issues, I really enjoyed it.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! Review by G. Dahlke

This is, hands down, the best book I have read on this topic – and I have read plenty. I would however, in future editions, like to see the topic of chair stacking in bowling alleys better addressed. Nice work by the author!

Like a Computer Instruction book, only it’s about stacking chairs in India Review by James M. O’Connell

Well, it seems that everything is being outsourced to India, including the latent demand for institutional stacking chairs.

The author breaks his information down by sector and region. I wish I would have known that before buying it — what I was hoping for was by geographic coordinates. See, I was hoping to look at some of these chairs using the satellite images in Googlemaps, but since this geographic information about the chairs isn’t included… well, It’s a lot of dough wasted (I can’t return the book because I ripped it up in anger when I found it wasn’t what I wanted).

Other than that, it’s just like reading a book about computers.

I mean, I liked his first movie, but I think Borat is over his head on this one. He’s trying to be all artsy and serious with this book.

Good, but incomplete statistics Review by Ian C. Guch

This book is, indeed, quite good at describing the outlook for public building stacking chairs excluding bar, bowling center, library, restaurant, and school stacking chairs in India. However, I am a bit offended that the information for the Kashmir region (which is claimed by both India and Pakistan) seems incomplete. Such scholarship is inexcusable. I will be going elsewhere in the future for information about the outlook for public building stacking chairs excluding bar, bowling center, library, restaurant, and school stacking chairs in India.

Dr. Parker has written a masterpiece! Review by Ari Brouillette

I first discovered Dr. Parker’s brilliant analysis and forecast of Indian stacking chair consumption while completing my thesis on the roll played by wheel based ergonomic office chairs in workplace fatalities. In particular, I found fascinating the statistical modeling employed by Dr. Parker to determine governmental stacking chair purchase requirements for the year 2011, which is well know to be the year that the Indian Civil Service Entrance Exam switches to a “Standing Only” testing methodology. Indeed, after months of careful study I can find only two obvious faults with the findings put forward by Dr. Parker. Firstly, and far more seriously, while Dr. Parker’s analysis included over 2600 Indian municipalities, his thoughtless exclusion of Indian bowling allies cuts short any possible insight into the scarcity of stacking chairs and the effects on Hindu-Muslim bowling alley violence. Perhaps the infamy of the religious riots in Pune, following Mohinder Singh’s perfect 300 game in 1998 led to this exclusion, I only hope that this obvious gap in analysis does not alienate future generations of readers and lead them to repudiation this otherwise thoughtful and deeply insightful study. My final criticism has to do with the quality of the publication and lack of full color illustrations. The choice to use black and white illustrations may be in keeping with the scholarly focus of this publication but I find it hard to distinguish between the Duo and Cello stacking chairs featured prominently on pages 316-318.

Finally, I must comment that Dr. Parker’s treatise on stacking chairs has reinvigorated my own personal interest in furniture based consumption modeling and the related effects on the medical industry. I have recently begun a study of metal folding table usage in the southern United States and the corresponding rise in emergency room visitation. I won’t provide any spoilers in this forum, but I can’t help but tease the fact that I have found a widespread correlation between metal folding table usage at Baptist picnics and emergency room visitation for trauma in the distal and proximal interphalangeal joints. I encourage the many fans of this book to check back soon for my own publication.

To James Cameron, XXXOOO, Love, Bill Walker Review by IbeforeJ

I’ve recently started to test-drive a lot of Cemetery Dance’s Publications and “Titanic 2012″ was next on my list. Since I was a big fan of the film “Titanic” when it came out, I was particularly excited to read Walker’s first novel. Overall, I think the book completed its objective well, but there are several issues, some having more to do with it being Walker’s first novel than anything else.

The book is essentially a REALLY big love letter to James Cameron. The references to Cameron’s genius actually start to wear on you after the 3rd or 4th reference and are just sort of silly as you start to get to the end of the book. While I would be more upset with the multitude of references from a seasoned writer, this is Walker’s first book, so I won’t count too many points against him. Also, some of the points made about “Titanic” annual viewings were news to me- maybe these are going on in Connecticut or somewhere else, but I’ve never heard of them. Unfortunately, I feel that these references are going to date the book- especially if the film does not retain its “classic” status (right now it’s ranked #83 in the 100 Greatest Films List compiled by the AFI in 2007.)

Also, there were some references to global warming that I found kind of funny considering this book was published almost 10 years ago when this debate wasn’t nearly as controversial- unfortunately, they felt forced and I felt like Walker just threw those comments in to put his own political/environmental opinion out there, since they did nothing to further the story, much less the chapter they were in.

I also thought the “catch” was too easy to determine- I had it figured out after reading Hughe’s interview with the ship captain. Unfortunately, it’s just too similar of a premise to Charles Beaumont’s “Passage on the Lady Anne” Twilight Zone episode, so it’s easy to spot and hard to let go of as the book progresses. Again, I’m usually not one to catch these points this early on, so I blame this on the book being Walker’s first.

As far as the detail- I have to hand it to Walker- it felt like I was walking through the boat with Hughes. His descriptive detail and little touches, like the portraits of the original 1912 occupants hanging off the staterooms’ doors, were all well done and were much appreciated by this reader.

Overall, the book was a fun read with some issues. If you’re a fan of Titanic, you’ll like this book and if you’re a HUGE fan of Titanic and James Cameron, you’ll absolutely LOVE this book.

deep character driven thriller Review by Harriet Klausner

In 2012 billionaire realtor Harlan Astor informs selected friends including his old Harvard mate bestselling author Trevor Hughes that he has built an exact replica of the famous Titanic, the ship where his great-grandfather died one century earlier. He asks Trevor to join the maiden voyage of TITANIC 2012 as the chronicler. Excited by just being aboard, Trevor accepts the invitation with plans to interview the crew and guests starting with the christening in Poland, but first dumps his girlfriend therapist Julia Magnusson over Astor’s ego.

As the ship sets sail and the media goes wild, Trevor interviews those on board. He begins to wonder what criteria Harlan used to select the chosen ones as deep appreciation of Cameron’s film is the only seeming link. However, his issues and concerns vanish when he meets Madeleine Regehr. As he fights not to fall in love, his doubts about the guest list and crew resurface so he begins to investigate everyone on board to learn why they were picked, especially Maddy.

This is a terrific tale that stars an individual who cannot commit to any deep relationships, whether they are just friendships or abiding love. Trevor’s quest to learn why each was picked enables him to also look at himself. Using the Titanic with homage to the Cameron movie is a clever mechanism that has the readers join the characters (in their imagination) on the sea voyage in spite of wondering about icebergs and other possible calamities. This is a very deep character driven tale as Bill Walker like his cast reveres the movie.

100 Years Later Review by J. Redding

For starters I’m a huge fan of Titanic, not really the film, but the ship itself. I’m moved by the stories of courage and cowerdice that get told over and over again. Once I read a book where Titanic was described as an end of an era, and a new beginning for the entire world. I tend to agree with this statement. The world was forever changed by one shipwreak. You don’t hear people speak about the Andrea Doria, do you? I feel that this book had a lot of that element in it. The romantic allure that the Titanic actually had and still has.

My biggest problem with the book at all was the constant referencing to the movie. It was a great film, but I didn’t feel that it needed to be mentioned as much as it did. I felt like the author thought we were going to forget about it, which would never happen.

As was said before, the portraits in the state rooms was a perfect, yet vaugely chilling touch. Having everything on the Titanic down to every last detail was also wonderful. I loved that fact that the ship still had a marconi room. Just attention to detail in this book was wonderful and there were points where I actually felt like I was there (or wished that I was). I have to say, the ‘what if’ made me get to thinking, what if they do re-make the Titanic?

Overall I was very pleased with this book and I will be recommending it to my friends.

		Missing links Review by GameFreak

I thought the book was great. I love the portraits in the rooms of the original passengers and all the detail down to the china and even the workout rooms. I also enjoyed the banter among the Harvard grads. It did seem a bit rushed though, and I dont know if that was the authors intention to mimic the urgency of the story’s interviews/book or not, but we jumped from Trevor exploring the ship to being best friends with the captain, from just seeing Maddy to being in love with her, and some of the dialogue was flat and forced, like the author might have been trying too hard to come up with something to fill the gaps. There could have been some headlines after the explosion too, something that would make Trevor and his buddies really absorb what happened, like maybe in the end they could have been sitting around the club reading about the voyage on the front page of the NY Times. That would been a chilly dejavu.

Good Read even if plot a little easy to figure out Review by C. Weatherford

The book moves along at a good clip, but it isn’t long till you know what is going to happen. If you are offended by language then you will be offended. The language (four letter words) where not necessary to convey the feeling of the characters. Overall, it was a good read. Just don’t look for the unexpected.

Who doesn’t love the Titanic? Review by Dumb Blonde Reviewing

To say I’m slightly mad about the Titanic is a mega understatement. I have 12 books, the video 3 times (don’t ask), the soundtracks and the original script, signed by James Cameron. I haven’t been tempted to buy the no-extras DVD yet, I’m still holding out for the special edition PACKED with extras.

I could not put this book down. It’s about the Titanic being rebuilt 100 hundred years after the original sank, and sailing once more, making you think the second Titanic will complete its journey. It doesn’t, but I’ll leave it up to the readers to see how.

It’s written from the present day, with three-quarters of the book written in flashback. Although it does tend to switch between present and that fateful day every other chapter, which does get confusing. You have to persevere with that bit, which really annoys me in books!

This is a great idea for a book, based on James Cameron’s fantastic film. (I wanna see the director’s cut!!!) The finale is kinda left hanging, but in a good way.

Once More Into the Breech Review by

The Titanic phenomenon has inspired imaginations for almost ninety years. Every generation has been treated to events that rekindle interest in that most singular of shipwrecks, the RMS Titanic. Walter Lord’s “A Night to Remember” in 1955, Robert Ballard’s discovery in 1985 and most recently James Cameron’s epic film “Titanic” have all caused a social recollection of Titanic. Her tragic tale, the people involved and the beauty of the ship and the age she briefly sailed through will never be forgotten. The urge to re-live history is most powerful when we think about the Titanic. Today there are several groups who are at least talking about building a Titanic replica so that contemporary people may roam her decks once again. With the coming centennial of that fateful voyage, such a project may actually be realized.

Bill Walker’s first novel “Titanic 2012″ tells a tale of one man’s vision to build a new Titanic. The story is told from the point of view of Trevor Hughes, a successful mystery writer. Trevor is reunited with his Harvard classmates including Harlan Astor, the great-grandson of J.J. Astor who died with the Titanic in 1912. Harlan has made his own billions in real estate and now reveals to his friends that he has secretly built a new Titanic. Trevor is asked to chronicle the maiden voyage which will retrace the original route exactly 100 years later, on April 10, 2012. Trevor plans on recording interviews with the handpicked passengers and crew. Everyone was profoundly moved by Cameron’s “Titanic” (the ‘director’s cut’ of course) and are now living the dream of their generation.

Mr. Walker’s novel is very compelling. The story is told in a flashback/flashforward style reminiscent of Cameron’s film. Right away, we learn that something went wrong during the voyage. Trevor recalls the events of the recent past. As the new Titanic comes into being, Trevor is a man at a crossroads. His sometimes girlfriend Julia Magnusson is changing his status quo. His college reunion sparks doubts about his career and friendships. Harlan may be his closest friend but the Titanic project seems to have changed him as well. Their relationship is both superficial and complex. Once on the new Titanic, Trevor meets a woman who brings up his deepest emotions but seems to be hiding something profound.

Lest we forget, “Titanic 2012″ is also about what a new Titanic would be like. Here Mr. Walker has not failed the reader. His details about the ship are fascinating and well thought out. One notable touch is the placing of portraits of the original 1912 passengers in the staterooms they occupied. Also to his credit, Mr. Walker has not painted a future full of weird gadgets and wild sociopolitical trends. This is, after all, only 14 years from now. DVD’s have replaced audio cassettes and computer telegraphics abound. However, it is a familiar and credible world. The story is not about the future, it is about death and life and the importance of the Titanic legacy.

I Loved It !! Review by tiffany bible

The whole plot of this book is great. I couldn’t stop reading. I stayed up late so I could finish the book in one evening. That doesn’t happen very often. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery. You don’t even have to be a fan of Titanic. But, if you are, you will love it even more.

		WOW! Review by

I agree with Mr. Weske…”When is the movie coming out?” This book was recommended to me by a good friend, and I am eternally grateful! Like Mr. Walker, I was fascinated by James Cameron’s wonderful movie production, and this book poses the question “What if?” to the reader. I find few books difficult to put down, but “Titanic 2012″ was nearly impossible for me to stop reading! I can’t wait to obtain my own copy so I can read it again and again! I have recommended this book to several of my friends, and I hope they listen to me! I can’t wait to read another book from such a talented author!

A Don’t Miss Novel of Titanic Proportions! Review by

I probably wouldn’t have picked up this book as the movie bored me (the first time I saw it) and although I am a history buff and this was an intriguing incident in our past, I wouldn’t have thought I would enjoy reading about it. A friend recommended it and I have read Bill’s short stories so I thought what the hell. I was more than pleasantly surprised. It is a wonderfully written story. Bill’s attention to detail is superb, the story line is fascinating. I read this one all in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down as I feared I would lose the flow of this beautifully done story. Pick this one up lest you miss one of the best books to come out in quite some time!

An avid reader’s response Review by S. Jones

I read “The Mushroom Farms” with a bit of initial skepticism. Most of the

apocalyptic fiction I’d read in the past involved the too-predictable roaming bands of mutants, irradiated small towns, and small bands of people huddled in desperation, This first book of Dr. Hodge’s trilogy relies on a different formula – a thinking person’s apocalyptic story. At times it seemed as thought I was reading Heinlein. The Mayan and other native people’s prophecies of a coming re-awakening, of a new age, have plowed fertile ground for this story.

The characters in the novel are all too human and believable. You’ll find yourself grinding your teeth at times, when the main characters take risks that most of us would never imagine, but when you find out why they do, you’ll then be cheering them on.

At times, the book left me anxious, realizing that all the technology, agencies, and policies are already in place to create such a world where there is no such thing as privacy. Do the next two books in this story prove that we deserve better than this?

I’m ready to find out.

A great book on what might happen when the long count ends. Professor Hodges has crafted a great story of conspiracy, science fiction/fact, and government intrigue. Definitely the beginning of a great trilogy! Read and enjoy.

DiaGnosis: Nice paper, but low on new info. Review by G. Stray

Robert Berringer’s book, Ancient Gods and Their Mysteries – Will They return in 2012 AD? is better produced than many 2012 books reviewed by me, having glossy pages and colour pages. It is 192 pages long and has a reference section plus an index. Berringer starts off by praising Erich von Daniken for his Chariots of the Gods, then mentions Graham Hancock, Robert Bauval and Zecharia Sitchin. “Is this going to be another mix of alternative Egypt theories, ancient astronauts, and the Bible?”, is the question that springs to mind. However, John Major Jenkins also receives praise for his work on deciphering the Maya cosmology, so we read on hopefully…the first chapter is about the bible; the second is about Nibiru; the third is about Egyptian gods. the point is made that the gods of the bible, Sumeria and Egypt were all the same gods, and connect with a time around 3,100 BC. In chapter 4, Berringer points out the similarity between Egyptian winged serpents and Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent god of the Toltecs, and that we are in the fifth age according to some Mesoamerican myths; that one of them ended in a flood and that the God of the bible caused a great flood. He quotes Sitchin, who says that the son of Enki was called Thoth in Egypt and Quetzalcoatl in Mesoamerica, and gave the Mesoamericans their 52-year calendar. Although Berringer gets the end-date right as 21st December 2012, he twice has it as December the 12th 2012 (p.50 & 62). This is sloppy and shows a lack of proof-reading.

Chapter 5 is based on Robert Temple’s findings in The Sirius Mystery, concluding that Yahweh and Quetzalcoatl came from Sirius and will return here in 2012. The next chapter brings in the Sirius alignments of the great Pyramid, as written about by Bauval and Hancock. The author goes on to point out that several of the earth’s sacred sites lie on a straight line that he calls “the old equator” and thinks that this may have something to do with 2012. Chapter 9 contains what I found the most fascinating piece of information in the book, (considering the findings of Weidner and Bridges, that the Hendaye Cross points to “Inca cave, Cuzco, Peru” – see Beyond 2012 p.108): on p.129-130, Berringer quotes from a 1927 book, Jungle Paths and Inca Ruins, by Dr William Montgomery McGovern (p.437):

Concerning the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, to the north of Cuzco:

“Near the fortress are several strange caverns reaching far into the earth. Here altars to the gods of the Deep were carved out of the living rock, and many bones scattered about tell of the sacrifices which were offered up.” No surprise so far…Weidner and Bridges quoted this passage in A Monument to the End of Time p.218 and in The Mysteries of the Great Cross of Hendaye p.386, but…) “The end of one of these caverns, Chincana, has never been found. It is supposed to communicate by a long underground passage with the Temple of the Sun, in the heart of Cuzco…Many have gone into the cavern, never to return again. Only a month or two before my arrival, the disappearance of three prominent people in this Inca cave caused the prefect of the province of Cuzco to wall up the mouth of the cavern…”

The book is a lot like Chariots of the Gods plus a 2012 connection, but the author continually states, “we believe…”, supposedly thinking he has already convinced the reader. He also consistently spells names wrong e.g. “Stephen Hawkings” and “Zacharia Sitchin”. Berringer also gets the 3113 BC start-date (p.37 and 171; 178 – 180) from Sitchin (Gregorian historical dating that does not account for a year zero), while the start-date is now usually written in Gregorian astronomical dating, as 3114 BC, to avoid confusion.

Although I remain unconvinced that the gods will return in 2012, it seems from the Tortuguero Prophecy (see diagnosis2012 website or just gopogle it), that this is exactly what the Maya were expecting!

A guide to clues that ancient deities have left behind as a “trail of breadcrumbs” Review by Midwest Book Review

Ancient Gods and Their Mysteries: Will They Return in 2012 A.D.? is a guide to clues that ancient deities have left behind as a “trail of breadcrumbs” to such profound questions as the riddle of creation, and the purpose of life itself. Chapters explore mysteries of the Sumerian and Egyptian civilizations; the beliefs of the Dogons, an African tribe with inexplicable knowledge of the Sirius star system; the secrets behind crystal skulls and the ark of the covenant; and much more. Written by a retired engineer of 30 years’ experience who struggled to find a scientific understanding of God in a world where human science repudiates the divine and mainstream religions cling to the revelations of a few designated prophets, Ancient Gods and Their Mysteries is a meticulous assembly of divine influences, scrutinized through a scientific lens, which point to periodically recurring interventions.

Older J.R.R. Tolkien fans &prophecy fans here’s a good one Review by

Read a lot of adventure books, but this is one of the best. It is so realistic i think the story could pass as non-fiction. Almost everything is believable. From the Indian tribes to the geography, and even the plant life. The characters are developed enough, a little more would be better, but there are only 3 to really get to know each seeking the mysterious shaman (shades of Castaneda)for a different reason. The bad guys, are very real and greedy and i wouldn’t want to run into them for any reason. The powerful shaman who tasks the 3 wasn’t disappointing, from the origins of man to the prophecy for the next 30 years, really hit a nerve. The tidbits extras at the end and the authors bio, really made me think. I agree, a good adventure story that should make a good movie

		AMAZING ADVENTURE Review by

This is a good read that maybe the fans of TV shows like ‘survivor’ or the other adventure shows would like. The search for the shaman take them on a wild and dangerous adventure. Kinda like a Harry Potter for adults, but with subtle magic. The prophecy is kinda vague, but logical, with riddles and fits in with the story. It’s a very realistic adventure that really messes with your head as they say. You will think about the book days later after reading . I know I did

An adventure of a lifetime. Review by

This is a fast, and good researched story that could make a hit movie. One wonders about the author, if there are any personal experiences that are drawn upon. The next big, and final date is 2012 . I now feel better about that turning point for the human race. A lot of metaphysical answers and speculations are weaved through out the story. For me it was a profound book, and funny in places. Needless to say, I found it hard to put down. I now want to go to Mexico and visit a shaman, maybe not of the supernatural type though!!!
